Welcome to May…
We've been made aware that after school hours last week, there was an altercation in which two cars were shooting at one another in the street. No one was hurt, but undoubtedly the situation was unnerving to imagine and has left many people feeling unsafe.
Monday, we had a staff meeting in which we went over all of our disaster preparedness plans and rediscussed protocols for lockdown, shelter in place, dangerous persons, and fire drill. I'm attaching those protocols to this newsletter in case anyone else would benefit from recognizing that there are plans in place for us to react and protect in any situation that arises. I wish we didn't need to even worry about these undesirable events that could come up. But, coming back to review and discuss helps everyone be as prepared as we can be at all times.
Separately of these protocols, during our meeting, we also shared and discussed ways in which we can help children in distress, upset, and during conflict management between multiple children. Next, we dove into the inquiry cycle and how to bring children’s learning interests deeper using open ended questions, documentation, and collecting of interest evidence that shows us which direction to take project work in the classroom. And lastly, we spent time recommitting to our schools values that ultimately keep us smoothly working as a community together.
With summer fast approaching, please check your child's cubby to replace any extras clothes that are missing and thank you to those that added their pillow case this week to their monday sheet and blanket routine. We will keep reminding for those that don't have one as it's something our licensing is requesting.
