Discovery (3.5-4.5 year olds)

Our Discovery class is designed for children turning 4 years old. We have a 1:9 ratio with a max of 18 children per day.

These students are developing the skills to collaborate and truly work together in their play. They mostly begin in the associative play state where they each have their own goal for play but are interacting with one another as they meet them. Throughout the year the students scaffold their interactions to work towards a common goal during their play. This cooperative play foundation sets the tone for their project work and transition to the maven class.

Throughout our play, these students are focusing a lot of our attention on writing our names, learning our letters, communication with each other, and being leaders in the classroom and in our community. On a daily basis we have opportunities for letter mastery, fine motor practice, sensory exploration, imaginary play, building and architecture, scientific experiments, math/logic, and featured artists and mediums.

Miss Loleisa

Miss Loleisa (low-lay-suh)’s birthday is February 9th and loves savoring good food. Loleisa says, “I love food, deeply, wholeheartedly, but asking me to pick a favorite is a bit like asking me to stop mid-meal and make a life decision. I’d rather keep wandering from one new flavor to the next, especially with my family along for the ride. Half the fun is the discovery; the other half is arguing over who picked the better spot.”

Outside of work, you’ll usually find her with her family, getting into some kind of adventure… which might mean white water rafting, holding on for dear life and calling it fun or heading out razor clamming, which is basically a treasure hunt where the treasure occasionally squirts back. It’s not always graceful, but it’s always a good time and almost always ends with a story worth retelling!
